This activity was taken from the Noggin BuilderZ beginner activity book

Building these insect and animal toys makes a toy for kids that they can play with outside or inside and build all by themselves.

Objective:

  • Work with the blade piece
  • Make characters that can be paired with a Noggin BuilderZ garden

The first and simpler friend we will make is a dragonfly.

For this you’ll need:

  • 4 blades
  • 1 spool
  • 1 pink rod
  • 3 holders

Have the child explore with the pieces to try to create a dragonfly that looks like the finished picture below

This activity can be expanded by looking up different kinds of insects and animals around the garden that they can create like hummingbirds, bumble bees, and bunnies.

The next animal is a peacock

For the peacock you’ll need:

  • 6 blades
  • 1 spool
  • 4 holders
  • 2 green rods
  • 1 red rod

Start by putting the blades on the spool and putting the green rods in the other 2 holes to make the feathers and legs.

Then add a holder to each of the bottom of the green rods to make feet

Finally, attach a holder to each end of the red rod and place in the center of the spool to create the peacock shown below

Try looking up different exotic animals that can be seen at the zoo like, flamingo, giraffe, or elephant and see if those can be created with Noggin BuilderZ too.

Remember:

  • colors of rods and other pieces may vary
  • kit contains small pieces and may be a choking hazard, ages 4+
