This activity was taken from the Noggin BuilderZ beginner activity book

The weight scale activity can be tested with other Noggin BuilderZ pieces or other household items to be used for math and science for many ages.

For the scale you’ll need:

  • 2 spools
  • 3 wheels
  • 7 green rods

Start by putting a green rod through one of the wheels and put a spool on each end of the rod.

Next, attach a green rod to opposite ends of the wheel with the remaining wheels on the end.

Finish the scale by propping it up with the remaining red rods to create the figure shown below

The scale can be tested with other Noggin BuilderZ pieces or other household items to be used for math and science.

To expand the weight scale activity,  show kids different types of scales and the different purposes for them like

  • comparing weight and mass
  • measuring food
  • using weight to determine health

Or how scales are used as a symbol for the justice system and many other organizations.

Remember:

  • colors of rods and other pieces may vary
  • kit contains small pieces and may be a choking hazard, ages 4+
